​At the Bindery we use spooled wire-o.  A spool contains about 2,500 feet of wire-o.  We feed the wire-o into a Twinserter which cuts the wire-o to the desired custom length, and then closes the wire-o to a round diameter. (The closing end is hidden!).  Diameters range from 1/4" to 1-1/4". We bind notepads with a binding edge as small as two inches as well as calendars with a binding edge as long as 22 inches.
